The Paluma Environmental Education Centre is nestled amongst the lush, tropical rainforests of the Paluma Range National Park in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Situated approximately 80km north of Townsville, the Centre is the perfect base for an exposure to one of nature's most delicate and diverse ecosystems.

The Centre is located on the grounds of the original Paluma State School, and can  house up to 70 people (usually up to 56 students and up to 14 adults) in bunk-style accommodation.

Excursions can be tailored to meet the needs of each class group, with curriculum-based learning experiences available in a range of key learning areas. Students and their supervising adults are guided through their rainforest experience by expert teachers and support staff who are familiar with the Paluma area and its history.

The Centre is also the ideal base for participating in a range of adventure and challenge activities.  Our staff can assist with canoeing activities at Lake Paluma, and visiting schools can arrange for student involvement in other activities through the Outer Limits Adventure Centre, a short walk from our site.

Teaching staff from the Paluma Environmental Education Centre can also provide day trip excursions at other sites as well as school incursions in a range of subject areas.  Please see the Programs tab for more information.

Specialist equipment is also available for hire e.g. water quality testing kits, insect traps, library resources, etc. Check our resources catalogue.
